Correct Startup and Fault Analysis of Double Screw Extruder

The correct start-up of the double screw extruder

  • Heat the double screw extruder to ensure that the temperature at various points such as the body, head, die, and control is within the specified range.

  • If the machine has been stopped for a long time before start-up, it is necessary to keep the temperature constant for 10-30 minutes after each point reaches the specified temperature range. If the machine is restarted within half an hour, there is no need to keep the temperature constant.

  • Start the air compressor and stop it when the storage cylinder pressure reaches 6-8kg/cm.

  • According to the requirements of film folding diameter and thickness, operate the double screw extruder to estimate the production capacity, traction speed, and stable bubble diameter.

  • After the temperatures at various points reach the specified range and required protective equipment is worn, start the traction machine, blower, and extruder in order.

  • Check the thickness and width of the film at various parts of the plastic blown film machine, and adjust them to meet the requirements.

  • When the outlet of the die is uniform, wear gloves and slowly pull the pipe blanks while sealing the end of the pipe blanks, so that a small amount of compressed air is blown into the center hole of the mandrel.

Analysis of faults in the double screw extruder

The main current of the double screw extruder is unstable. There are many reasons for this, such as a malfunction of a heating device, uneven feeding, incorrect adjustment of the screw cushion, or incorrect phase angle. It may also be caused by poor lubrication or damage to the main motor bearings.

To solve this problem, each part such as the heating device, bearings, screw, and feeding should be checked one by one. If a heating device is damaged, replace it; if feeding is uneven, check the feeder and eliminate the fault; if there is interference caused by the screw cushion adjustment, check whether there is such a problem. If the bearings are damaged, replace them.

The main motor of the double screw extruder emits abnormal noise. This abnormal noise is mainly caused by two problems. One is that a thyristor in the controllable silicon rectifier circuit of the main motor is damaged, and the other is that the bearings of the main motor are damaged.

The solution to this problem is to first check the controllable silicon rectifier circuit of the main motor to see if there is any damage. If necessary, replace the damaged thyristor component. If the bearings of the plastic extruder's main motor are damaged, replace them with new ones.
