What Details Should Be Noticed in the Daily Maintenance of Twin Screw Extruder?

Ⅰ. The daily maintenance and regular maintenance process of the twin-screw extruder 


1. Daily maintenance: routine work, which does not take up person-hours for equipment operation and is usually completed during start-up. The focus is to clean the machine, lubricate the moving parts, tighten the threaded components that are easy to loosen, check and adjust the motors, control instruments, various working parts, and pipelines in time.


2. Regular maintenance: Generally, the extruder should be shut down after the extruder has been running continuously for 2500-5000h. The machine needs to be disassembled to inspect, measure, and appraise the wear of the main parts, replace the parts that have reached the specified wear limit, and repair the damaged parts.


The two maintenance processes complement each other and are indispensable.


Ⅱ. Details that need to be paid attention to in the daily maintenance of twin-screw extruders


Because the electrical control system has stringent environmental, temperature, and dust prevention requirements, it should be isolated from the production site and ventilation fans installed. To keep the room clean and ventilated, it is recommended that the electrical control cabinet be placed in a simple room. So that the indoor temperature does not exceed 40 °C.


To prevent the screw and machine parts from rolling, the dual-screw extruder is not allowed to run empty. When the machine starts idling, it is not permitted to exceed 100r/min; start the host at a low speed. Check for abnormal noise after starting the host, and then gradually increase the host speed within the process allowable range (to a stable state is preferable); When the new machine is running in, the current load should be 60-70 percent, and the current in normal use should not exceed 90 percent.


Turn on the oil pump first, and turn off the oil pump after shutting down; the water pump keeps working during the whole production process, and the operation of the water pump cannot be stopped. Otherwise, the temperature rise of the barrel will cause the material in the barrel to decompose and carbonize. The asbestos air hood of the main motor fan needs to be cleaned frequently to avoid excessive dust adhesion; blocking the air hood causes low heat dissipation of the motor and trips due to overheating.


Clean up the dirt, tools, and debris on the surface of the dual screw extruder unit in time.

Strictly prevent metal or other debris from falling into the hopper to avoid damage to the screw and barrel. To prevent iron debris from entering the barrel, a magnetic absorption component or a magnetic frame can be installed at the material inlet of the barrel to prevent debris from falling into the barrel. The materials must be sieved in advance.


Pay attention to the clean production environment, do not mix garbage and impurities into the material, block the filter plate, affect the output, quality of the product and increase the resistance of the machine head.


The gearbox should use the lubricating oil in the machine manual and add the oil according to the specified oil level. Too little oil, insufficient lubrication with decreased parts' service life; too much oil, high heat generation, and high energy consumption will deteriorate oil. It also makes the lubrication ineffective, causing damage to the parts. The sealing gasket (ring) should be replaced in time for the oil leakage part of the reduction box to ensure the amount of lubricating oil.
