The Core Areas of the Extruder

1. Heating zone

In general, the material enters into the feeding section and compression section when extruder machine is in the normal production state, because the material just enters into the extruder machine, the temperature difference between the inner and the set temperature is too large and the shear heat effect is not obvious, it mainly relying on the heating ring to provide a large amount of external heat, so the heating ring is required to work continuously, that's why these two sections are called heating areas. It is mainly provided by external heating and screw shearing, calendering and friction. The so-called shearing heat refers to the friction heat produced by the material between the screw and the barrel when the screw moves relative to the screw; the calendering heat produced by the material at the bottom of one screw rib and another screw groove; the shearing heat produced by the material shearing between two screws. The three heat sources of the extruder machine are generally referred to as shear heat due to the large proportion of shear heat.


2. The constant temperature zone

The melt has been basically plasticized after entering the melt section and the metering section through the compression section, there is even a surplus of "shear heat". The purpose of temperature control in this stage is not to further heat supply but to carry out "cooling" timely when the extruder melt is "overheated", so as to transfer the excess heat out.Only in the case of large heat loss of the screw barrel, occasionally add the lost heat, so called the two sections of the extruder machine "constant temperature zone".


3. Heat preservation zone

The melt in the heat preservation zone enters into the core and the die. Because the melt has started to change from the spiral movement to the straight-line movement, the shear heat effect no longer exists. The melt of the heat-resistant and wear-resistant extruder reaches the die along the specified flow path of the combined core,  some heat will be consumed. In order to ensure that the melt moves evenly along the flow path of the dovetail groove of the die, appropriate heat needs to be added. For this purpose, the die is set at a slightly higher temperature, so it is called the "heat preservation zone" of extruder machine.
